Personalization
Five ways to make it permanent.
Two of these cut into the surface, one builds on top of it, one lays metal into a shallow impression and one is a woven tape sewn down on four sides. They do not look alike, they do not age alike, and not every material will take every one of them.

Laser Engraving
A focused beam removes the top layer of the hide. The mark is a real cut, so it reads by shadow, not by ink.
Depth is set between 0.15 and 0.35 mm depending on hide thickness. The cut edge darkens naturally, which is why the letters stay legible from any angle without pigment. Because the surface is removed rather than covered, the mark cannot rub off.

Process: Panel is jigged flat, focus is set against a height gauge, the head runs a single pass, then the panel is brushed and conditioned.

Foil Stamping
Heated brass type presses metallic foil into the surface. The letters sit inside the impression, so they are both bright and sunken.
Type is heated to between 105 and 120 degrees Celsius and held under pressure for a measured dwell. The foil bonds only where the type touches. On heavy canvas the weave shows through the foil slightly, which is expected and part of the look.

Process: Type is composed by hand into a chase, the panel is registered against stops, the press dwells, then the carrier film is peeled back.

Embroidery
Satin stitch builds the letters above the cloth. This is the only method that adds height instead of taking it away.
Stitch density is set so the thread fully covers the ground without puckering the weave. Backing is fused behind the panel and trimmed after stitching. Thread stands roughly 0.6 mm proud of the surface, which is why it catches light along one edge.

Process: The panel is hooped, backing is fused, the head runs the fill, then the reverse is trimmed and the backing is cut back to the stitch line.

Debossing
A steel die presses the shape into the hide with no ink and no foil. You read it by the shadow it holds.
This is the quietest mark we make. Nothing is added to the surface, so the letters shift with the light and disappear when the light is flat. Depth settles slightly over the first few months as the hide relaxes; this is normal.

Process: A die is cut for the exact string, the hide is lightly cased, the press dwells under load, then the panel rests flat for 24 hours.

Woven Label
A 60 by 20 mm label is woven with your text and stitched down on all four sides. It works on every material we carry.
Text is woven into the tape rather than printed on it, so it survives washing and abrasion. The label sits about 1 mm proud of the surface with a visible stitch perforation around the border.

Process: The tape is woven to length, the edges are ultrasonically cut and sealed, then the label is lock-stitched to the panel.
Availability
Material decides, not preference.
A laser scorches cotton canvas, so we do not offer it there. A blind deboss needs a hide thick enough to hold the compression, so leather only. Mark Studio hides whatever the face cannot take rather than letting you choose it and then cancelling the order.
Stacking
Up to 2 marks per bag, for example a foil stamp on the front and a woven label inside. The same method on the same face is never billed twice.
Lead time
2 working days of handling, plus the increment for the slowest method on the order. Both numbers appear on the product page, in the cart and at checkout.
Returns
Engraved items are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged unless faulty. Read the policy.
