Personalization

What we will engrave, what we will not, how every string is reviewed, and what happens when one fails.

01

Your text is your content

When you submit text for engraving, that text is content you provide. You confirm that you own the rights to it or are otherwise entitled to use it, and that using it does not infringe anyone else's rights or break any law.

We are the ones who cut it into a physical object, so we take responsibility for reviewing it. Every submitted string is read by a person before it reaches a machine.

02

What we will engrave

Your own name, initials or monogram. A date, a year, or a set of coordinates. A short phrase you wrote yourself. Geometric rules, lines and dots from our own library.

03

What we will not engrave

Third-party intellectual property. Registered brand names and near-spellings of them, sports clubs and their crests, characters from film, television, games and animation, the names of recording artists and public figures, and lyrics or dialogue still in copyright.

Unlawful or harmful content. Slurs and discriminatory statements, threats of violence, and references to weapons or controlled substances.

Other people's personal details. Full street addresses, phone numbers, government identifiers, and bank or card numbers belonging to anyone, including you.

Claimed authority or credentials. The names of law-enforcement, intelligence, customs or other government bodies, and regulated professional titles such as MD, RN, Esq., DDS or CPA.

04

The line we cannot cross

We can't engrave trademarks, team names, characters, or anyone's personal details. Orders that include them will be cancelled and refunded in full.

This applies even when you tell us you have permission. We are not able to verify a licence, so we decline the whole category rather than guess.

05

How review works

Step one, submitted. Your string is checked against our rules as you type. Anything obvious is flagged in the studio before you reach the cart, and the input is locked when a string would run past the working area of the face you chose.

Step two, reviewed. After the order is placed, a person reads every submitted string. Nothing goes to a machine before that read.

Step three, approved or refunded. Approved strings move to production and you receive the archived production preview by email. Rejected strings are cancelled and refunded in full, and we tell you the reason within two business days.

06

Character and size limits

Limits differ by method: laser engraving takes up to 16 characters, foil stamping 12, embroidery 14, blind debossing 10 and a woven label 20. Cap heights run from 8 mm to 24 mm depending on method.

Each markable face also has its own maximum working area, printed on the product page. Where a string at a given cap height would exceed it, the studio blocks the combination rather than shrinking your text without telling you.

Up to two marks per bag. The same method on the same face is never billed twice.

07

The preview is the record

The preview generated in Mark Studio is stored with your order and is the reference the bench works from. It is also the reference we use to settle any dispute about what was ordered.

The preview is a simulation. Slight variation in position and depth is normal on natural materials. A position more than 3 mm away from the archived preview is treated as a fault.

08

Personalized items are final sale

Engraved items are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged unless faulty. The four things we treat as faults, and how to report one, are set out in our returns and refunds policy.

09

Under 18

Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to consent to the order, and the guardian must also confirm the submitted text before it is produced. We collect a guardian email at checkout and contact them before production starts.

10

How long we keep your text

Submitted text and the archived preview are kept for 24 months after the order completes, so that we can honour a fault claim and answer a payment dispute. After that they are deleted. See our privacy policy for the full retention schedule and your rights.
