Product Safety

California Proposition 65, children, working loads and how to look after what you bought.

01

California Proposition 65

Some items contain chrome-tanned leather or a polyurethane-coated fabric. California requires a warning where a product can expose a person to certain listed chemicals.

Where a warning applies, it is printed on that item's product page before you can add it to the cart, next to the line in your cart, and again on the checkout page. We do not bury it in a footer.

The two warnings we use are: for leather components, chromium (hexavalent compounds), known to the State of California to cause cancer. For polyurethane-coated fabric, diisononyl phthalate (DINP), known to the State of California to cause cancer. More information at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

02

Children

None of our bags is a toy and none is intended for children under three.

Drawstring bags contain long cords. Cords can wrap. Keep them away from cots, beds and play equipment, and do not let a small child play with them.

Two backpacks use magnetic catches. Magnets are dangerous if swallowed. Keep them away from small children, and away from bank cards with a magnetic strip, and from pacemakers.

03

Working loads

Every product page prints a suggested working load in kilograms. It is the load the seams, base and handles are built to carry repeatedly.

Carrying more than that is the most common cause of a torn base or a pulled handle. Damage caused by exceeding the suggested load is wear from use, not a fault, and is not covered.

04

Water

Coated items carry a water-resistant coating tested at 20 minutes of light rain. Water-resistant is not waterproof. Seams, zips and open tops are not sealed, and nothing we make should be submerged or left standing in water.

Wet sections hold damp fabric, not standing water. Empty them the same day.

05

Care

Canvas: spot clean with cold water and a soft brush, air dry away from direct heat. Do not machine wash; agitation distorts the panel and the stitch.

Coated fabric: wipe with a damp cloth. Do not machine wash; the coating will craze.

Leather: wipe with a dry cloth and condition twice a year. Do not soak, and keep it out of prolonged direct sun.

Anything carrying a woven label should be hand washed at most, never machine washed.

06

Hardware

All metal fittings are nickel-free. If you have a known metal sensitivity and want the exact specification for a particular item, ask us before ordering and we will send it.
